Goodbye Raina and James…They say “If you love someone, let them go,” right? After many years working for our company, today we say goodbye to Raina Youngs, our long-time Café Manager at Tech Ridge. Next Friday, we say goodbye to James Roque, our current Assistant Manager at St. Edward’s University. Both have been amazing and loyal people for our company, and we couldn’t have gotten to where we are without them. I will miss them, and I know many of you will miss them as well. I wish them well in everything that they do in life. I’m blessed to have had the honor of working with them. They have both taught me many things in life. I am a better owner and leader as a result of both of them.

At the same time, we are excited about the future of Texenza Coffee. Steve Baer will now be leading our team at St. Edward’s University, and we will be hiring Raina’s replacement as soon as possible. In the mean time, I will be leading her team (as best possible) at Tech Ridge. If you want to see me in action, come by Tech Ridge at Parmer & IH-35. I would love to buy your drink...Just mention you read the Owner’s Blog and I would be glad to buy your drink and spend a few minutes chatting.

For now, take care and talk to everyone soon….Robert

At Texenza Coffee, we want to provide you drinks and foods that you will enjoy. As a result, we are planning to introduce a new chorizo, egg & cheese taco to each of our cafes very soon (in addition to the recent pigs in a blanket we introduced recently). We know you are going to like it. We are also working to develop a schedule to introduce non-coffee beverages. These are going to be fruit-based beverages. These will take a little more time to bring to our cafes, but we will. We will keep you updated. I hope you are taking advantage of our daily specials Monday thru Friday, as they provide excellent value. Speaking of value, did you know that if you put just $15 on a Texenza cash card, your drink is on the house, and if you put $40 on a cash card, you get a free drink and a free 12oz bag of coffee beans. For all of our regulars, this is a great way to earn free drinks and free beans!

Well take care and see you next week.-----Rick Timmins

Tweet Tweet. No, I’m not pretending to be the Road Runner running away from Coyote (Did you know Coyote really did catch Road Runner – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJJW7EF5aVk)

I’m talking about Twitter, and all of our cafes have Twitter accounts where you can follow them (and they can follow you!!!). You can find the account names by clicking on the Twitter icon on our site, and it will take you to each of their accounts.

Each day, our cafes post a keyword allowing you to get 50% off of a beverage in the café if you mention it to the barista when you order.

We also post other relevant information periodically about our cafes on Twitter. We would love to follow you too, so get going……Beep..Beep!!!

On a personal note, I’m sitting on my patio thinking about how blessed I am to have had the opportunity to lead and serve all of our team members of Texenza Coffee, as well as our catering company (Little Big City Catering).  Although there are challenges (isn’t anything worthwhile challenging), I wouldn’t trade the opportunity I’ve had over the last seven years to meet some of the most amazing people that have inspired ME to be a better person. Thank you to all of our current (and previous) employees.

When you get a chance, tell your favorite barista how much you appreciate them. It will make their day.

Oh, and one more thing, I was beginning to wonder if it would ever rain again in Austin, and behold, something wet is actually falling from the sky as we speak. Hallelujah!!!

    Until next week…..

    Robert

    Rick's Weekly Blog...

Well after some work on the Texenza Coffee website, we have added a feature called "Owner's Blog". That means the two owners of Texenza Coffee, which are Robert Gleason and myself (Rick Timmins) are going to write a blog periodically about the happenings of our coffee business, our team members, our guests and ourselves. We hope you enjoy it. BTW--as the website indicates we are a locally owned family business. Robert is my son-in-law.

This week in most of our cafes we are kicking off a new daily special Monday thru Friday. The posters are going up this week and it will involve big savings to our guests as they consider their food and drink options when they come in the cafe. This is another way we are trying to bring good value to our guests in these challenging economic times. We hope you like them.

Also, I am not sure if everyone knew this or not, but we also own a catering business called Little Big City Catering. As a result, we prepare our sandwiches and bake almost all of our own pastries which are delivered fresh to the cafes every day of the week. We have been doing this for several years.

Lastly, I want to hear back from our customers. Feel free to email me on any item in our cafes. My email is rtimmins@yahoo.com and I promise I will get back to you. Also, if you are interested in meeting with Robert and/or myself, we will be glad to get together and have a cup of coffee. Just let me know. I will buy!!!

    Well, take care for now.

    All the best----Rick Timmins

    Robert's Weekly Blog...

I have to say that when I thought about writing a blog, I was a little nervous.  I didn’t know what I would write to express my thoughts to everyone.  After a few minutes, I realized that a blog is just an outward expression in writing of what I’m thinking about all of the time.  After I realized that, I really wasn’t that nervous.  So here goes….. As you know from our home page, Texenza Coffee was born in October 2008 to be a truly independent coffee company.  Our mission statement and core values reflect who we are, and so I thought it would be best to share those with you in my first blog.

Our mission statement is “Actively connecting to create and maintain welcoming relationships.”  Every word in our mission statement is our goal every day.  We believe that we have to ACTIVELY connect to not only CREATE, but also MAINTAIN a relationship that is WELCOMING to you so that you will feel like connected to our cafes and teams.

    Our core values are:

    - Be honest, respectful and demonstrate integrity in everything that we do.

-Cultivate openness in every aspect of our organization.

-Lead and serve with relentless passion.

-Create and nurture a fun environment.

-Actively seek out, connect and support our community.

-Protect and promote a true independent spirit.

-Take initiative to expand our understanding and knowledge of the specialty coffee industry.

If you ever feel that we are not living up to our mission or core values, please feel free to contact either Rick or me (rgleason@austin.rr.com) to challenge us on how we can be the best independent coffeehouse in Central Texas!!!

On a side note, Rick and I are both really working hard to get this social network thing down.  Our Café Managers are much more savvy than we are, but we’re trying.  All of our cafes are set up on Twitter, and if you come into our cafes and say the magic Twitter word of the day, you will get your drink for 50% off.  How cool is that???

We look forward to sharing our thoughts on the company, our team, and our story in the weeks to come.

    -Robert Gleason
